XRP Ledger Batch Amendment: What It Does and the Flaw That Was Caught

Batch lets up to eight XRP Ledger transactions settle together, all or nothing. How the first version's flaw was caught, the ECB link, and where XRP fits.

Video: Ripple XRP — An ATTACKER Could Have Moved Funds Without The KEYS. They Caught It! (DEEP DIVE)

Key takeaways

  • Batch lets two to eight XRP Ledger transactions be submitted together, and in all-or-nothing mode either every one succeeds or none do.
  • The original version had a critical authorization flaw found in February 2026. It never reached the live ledger, and a rebuilt Batch V1.1 went through three outside security reviews.
  • You can check whether any amendment is live yourself: search 'XRP Ledger amendments' and look for Batch V1.1 on an explorer such as XRPScan.
  • Batch does not require XRP. XRP's role comes from auto-bridging between assets that lack a direct market, which depends on real assets arriving.
  • Some wallets and explorers may show a batch as successful even if an inner transaction failed, so check each inner line.

The XRP Ledger’s Batch upgrade lets several transactions settle together as one, so a trade either completes in full or not at all. Its first version had a flaw that could have let an attacker make transactions from someone else’s account without their keys. That flaw was caught before it ever touched the live ledger.

According to the video, a rebuilt version reached the validator majority it needed on September 15, 2026, and was scheduled to switch on at 14:06 UTC on September 29, 2026. Here is what Batch does, how the flaw was handled, why the European Central Bank’s new settlement link is related, and where XRP does and does not fit.

What does the Batch amendment do?

Batch lets you bundle between two and eight XRP Ledger transactions so they settle together. In a developer walkthrough from XRPL Commons shown in the video, Batch offers four modes:

  1. All or nothing: every transaction must succeed, or the whole batch fails.
  2. Until failure: run transactions in order and stop at the first one that fails.
  3. Only one: take only the first transaction that works.
  4. Independent: run them all, regardless of individual results.

All or nothing is the mode banks care about most. The video compares it to buying a house or a car: the money and the keys change hands together, or the deal doesn’t happen. In finance that is called delivery versus payment. Before Batch, doing several steps on the XRP Ledger meant sending one transaction, then another, and if the second failed you could be left holding half a deal.

What was the flaw in the first version?

The walkthrough shown in the video was recorded in December 2025 on the original version of Batch. In February 2026, while that version was still being voted on, researchers found a critical authorization flaw. Had it gone live, an attacker could potentially have executed transactions from another account without holding its private keys.

Validators were advised to vote it down. It never reached the live ledger and no funds were affected. The feature was then rebuilt as Batch V1.1, which went through three outside security reviews.

In a clip in the video, the head of the XRP Ledger Foundation explains that adding a feature to the ledger is expensive because the code must go through quality assurance and security audits, and the foundation exists partly to fund that review. The video’s view: a flaw caught before launch is the system doing its job. The worrying version of the story is one where nobody noticed.

How does an XRP Ledger upgrade switch on?

Ripple cannot switch an upgrade on by itself. According to the video, more than 80% of trusted validators must support an amendment, and keep supporting it for two weeks. Batch crossed that line on September 15, 2026. On September 22, 30 of the 35 validators were in favor, which put activation at 14:06 UTC on September 29. If support drops to 80% or below during those two weeks, the clock resets.

You can check the result yourself in about 30 seconds:

  1. On your phone, search “XRP Ledger amendments.”
  2. Open an explorer site such as XRPScan that lists every amendment.
  3. Find Batch V1.1. If it says enabled, it is live. If not, you will see where the vote stands.

What did the European Central Bank switch on?

On September 21, 2026, eight days before Batch’s scheduled activation, the ECB launched Pontes. It links blockchain-based trading platforms to TARGET, the central bank settlement services euro-area banks already use. When a tokenized security moves on a blockchain, the cash side settles in central bank money.

In a July announcement shown in the video, the ECB said the availability of central bank money is essential for broader adoption of tokenization. The video calls this the same “both legs” problem Batch addresses, at central bank level: the asset moves on a blockchain, the cash moves in central bank money, and they must settle together.

The same day, according to the video, the ECB said it has started preparing to invest part of its own funds in tokenized securities settled through Pontes.

Did the ECB pick XRP?

No. Only four platforms were on the ECB’s list at launch, and one, a Lithuanian firm called Axiology, runs on a permissioned version of the XRP Ledger. The video is precise about what that means:

Claim What the video says
Axiology uses the public XRP Ledger No. It runs a private, permissioned copy of the technology.
Its settlement uses XRP No. It uses regulated euro stablecoins.
It shows the technology is trusted Yes, at the top level of European finance.
It is a reason to buy XRP No. The video says it is not a buy signal on its own.

RippleX’s head of engineering says in the video that financial institutions prioritize infrastructure similar to how they already operate. Banks already settle both legs together, and Batch lets them do the same on a public ledger.

Where does XRP fit in Batch?

Batch does not need XRP to work. The video shows a test-network demo where an intermediary swaps RLUSD from one account for a multi-purpose token (MPT) in another, atomically, in one step. Neither side of that trade is XRP, and the network fees paid in XRP are tiny by design.

XRP’s role comes from auto-bridging. As the head of the XRP Ledger Foundation explains in the video, if an asset such as a bond or a stablecoin has a market against XRP, the ledger can automatically route between assets through XRP. If a bond and a stablecoin have no direct market, the ledger can bridge them through XRP. The more assets that arrive on the ledger to be swapped, the more often that bridge could be used.

That depends on real institutions bringing real assets. According to the video, RippleX has said it will name the asset managers building on Batch once it is live. Until names appear, the video says to treat that as a promise, not a fact.

Why wallet and app builders want Batch

There is a smaller benefit too. Batch lets wallets and apps bundle a service fee into the same transaction. The chief operating officer of XRPL Labs, the company behind the Xaman self-custody wallet, says in the video that Batch removes the excuses for projects not to be sustainable or make revenue, because the ledger had been “fairly fixed function” and monetizing a product was almost impossible.

Batch was mainly written by Denis Angell of XRPL Labs, who the video says is now chief technology officer of the XRP Ledger Foundation. Apps that can pay for themselves are more likely to still be around in five years.

One practical warning: CryptoSlate pointed out that some wallets and explorers can misread these bundles. The outer transaction can show success while one of the inner ones failed. Keep your wallet updated, and if you see a batch in your history, check each inner line, not just the headline.

What to watch next

According to the video, Batch is the first of three upgrades. Permission delegation was targeting October 5, 2026, followed by native on-chain lending, which RippleX’s head of engineering says is the current focus, paired with stablecoins such as RLUSD.

The video names three signals that would show Batch is working:

  1. A named asset manager settling a real trade with Batch on the live ledger.
  2. Wallets and explorers showing inner transaction results properly.
  3. The first tokenized asset on the public ledger with a live XRP market, which is what brings auto-bridging into play.

The upgrade is the door. The assets that come through it are what count for XRP.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Batch amendment on the XRP Ledger?

Batch lets a user submit between two and eight transactions as one bundle. In all-or-nothing mode, every transaction must succeed or the whole batch fails. Other modes include stopping at the first failure, taking only the first one that works, or running them all independently.

When did Batch go live on the XRP Ledger?

According to the video, Batch V1.1 reached validator majority on September 15, 2026, and was scheduled to switch on at 14:06 UTC on September 29, 2026. The switch would be delayed if support fell to 80% or below during the two-week window.

Was anyone's XRP stolen because of the Batch flaw?

No. The flaw was found in February 2026 while the original version was still being voted on. Validators were advised to vote it down, it never reached the live ledger, and no funds were affected.

Did the ECB choose XRP?

No. One of the four platforms on the ECB's Pontes list at launch, Axiology, runs on a private permissioned version of XRP Ledger technology. It is not the public XRP Ledger, and its settlement uses regulated euro stablecoins, not XRP.
